2007 Participants Who's Who

Use this space to introduce yourself to other SRP participants. This is optional, but a fun way to learn more about the people behind the reviews.

Cynthia: I'm a medical librarian and I love to read. I participate in a local book group, which is the closest I come to reviewing books unless it's SRP time. Besides reading, I enjoy knitting, crocheting, and socializing with friends and family.

AmyK: I'm a librarian in search of a library, so I expect to have lots of time to read this summer. One of my favorite summer things to do is hunker down in a deck chair with my book, and now that most of my TV shows have ended, I am really going to make an effort to spend more of my spare time reading. I have put myself in a "one woman book club," where I commit to reading a classic and an "educational" (meaning David Sedaris and other funny memoirs don't count) non-fiction each season.

Kate: I'm a law librarian who recently finished law school. Yay, me! I finally have some free time on my hands, and quite a list of books to read. I'm still trying to figure out how much time I'll actually have to read, so I may adjust my goals upward, later.

Erica: I'm a 20-something public librarian. I read on my lunch break and at home sitting on my lawn.

Laura: I'm a public librarian who loves to read trashy romance novels, teen fiction and have recently been getting into fantasy. I've been spending too much time on my new baby (a Mac Book) and am looking forward to having an incentive to back to reading a little more.

Alissa: I'm a public librarian who will soon be in search of a library. So I'll either have lots of time to read or none at all. I haven't been reading as much lately with too much else going on so my goal might be high for me now, even though it would have been low a year or two ago. I am learning to knit and start sock classes next week!

Rita: I'm a public librarian (for the next six months at least) with a New Year's resolution of reading at least 50 books in 2007. I'm halfway there. I'm generally a nonfiction kind of gal, so I'm trying hard to digest more fiction. When I'm not reading, I'm usually keeping my dogs from eating one another or knitting in front of the TV.

Katie: I just finished my MLS, so I hope to have lots of time to catch up on my reading this summer! I'm currently working as a Technical Content Editor but looking for a real library job.

Jessie: I have also just finished my MLS. I'm currently working as a Library Assistant in Cataloging, but am looking for a librarian position. After spending the last 2.5 years working full time while taking classes, I finally have time to read for myself again. My goals include reading classics and a non-fiction book, and those will be challenges since I tend to stick to fantasy and young adult fiction.

Liza: I'm a cataloging librarian at a public library in central Illinois. My favorite thing to do is read and far too often I can't find enough time to do it. I tend to stick to my favorite genre (fantasy, sci-fi) too much so this summer I'm going to try and branch out by reading some mainstream fiction, as well as a few non-fiction books.

Erin: I'm a catalog librarian working at an academic library in the StL. I catalog serials and electronic resources and I also do database management stuff. I think it's funny that I am right below Liza (a fellow cataloger) on this list. I love to read, but I don't read enough. I am married to a sportswriter and have a dog (MollyBear) and cat (Queen Beatrice). I also have an iPod named Black Frances. I always wonder if people get that reference.

Sarena: I just graduated with my MSIS this spring. I'll begin a fellowship/training program for medical librarians this September, and after that, I hope to work in a medical library somewhere in the U.S. I'm getting married soon, so I haven't been doing much reading. I'm looking forward to having time to read for fun again! I'm a fan of historical fiction (mostly from the 19th century). I stick to literature most of the time, but I'm willing to branch out to do something different!

Liz: I'm also a librarian in search of a library (thanks AmyK for the phrasing). Books have always been my favorite hobby. When I don't have time to read, I get cranky, thankfully, that hasn't been an issue lately. I read mostly fiction, and lately mostly YA fiction. But I'm open to anything.

Aisling: I'm not a Librarian, but I am friends with one (Hi Katie!) I'm a Stay-at-home homeschooling mom, how hasn't even done the whole college thing yet. I'll get there someday. I've got four children, three boys ages 8, 6, and 4 and one girl who is one and a half. We live in Texas.

Elissa: I'm a public librarian in NY. I have a fairly long commute to work, so that's when I get most of my reading done

Sara: I'm not a librarian either - although with the amount of books I own I could open my very own library! Live in New Hampshire...love to read. Planning on "reading from my stash" for this summer!!!

Micaela: I am also a librarian (I like AmyK's phrase) currently without library. Despite a delicious amount of free time I have not been reading enough print materials (the siren call of email, blogs and message boards). I am married to another reader so sometimes we do manage together time where we both sit and read our own things. I recently finished the year long quest of finishing __Jane Eyre__. I am also a knitter, occassional crocheter, sewer and general crafty-gal.

LizW: I'm Katie's cousin and a friend to librarians everywhere! I live in Boston and studied philosophy and French as an undergrad (my continuing interest in at least one of those two subjects will surely be revealed by my book choices over the course of the summer!). I mainly read on the T on my way to and from work at a travel agency, and I also participate in a casual book club with friends in the area.

Jaymi: I'm friends with Micaela and a writer (gasp! a non-librarian). I'm currently the creativity writer for D*I*Y Planner and looking for contract work around Portland, OR. Like Micaela, I've got a lot of time on my hands and many stacks of books to read. So, what better way to kick my butt into reading them all by joining up for this program. I'm also a avid journaler and paper artist.

Holly: I am a currently unemployed writer/grantwriter who spent my childhood summers attempting to read all of the books in my mum's libraries. I have also been known to go to the library on Friday nights for fun (with Micaela). I spend most of my time attempting to corral and teach my almost-two-year-old. I suppose I am technically a stay-at-home-mom, but it feels funny to say that since it isn't exactly by choice. What else? I love to cook elaborate dishes, study languages and travel. (I am also a closet grammar junkie!)
